MSCI Global Standard Indices

Time-tested, market-leading regional, country, and industry indices

MSCI Standard Indices

In today's constantly evolving equity markets, indices play an essential and varied role within the investment process, from benchmarking a fund's performance, to asset allocation and performance attribution, to acting as the basis for index-linked products.

The MSCI Global Standard Indices offer investors a set of investable regional, country, and industry indices that share a consistent methodology, a rigorous approach to data collection and quality control, and a unique historical data set reaching as far back as 1969. Following enhancements to the index methodology in 2007/2008, the MSCI Global Standard Indices offer exhaustive coverage and non-overlapping size (large and mid cap) segmentation. MSCI also provides regional indices that apply country weights based on gross domestic product (GDP) rather than market capitalization.

In addition to benchmarking, the MSCI Global Standard Indices can be used throughout the investment process for many other purposes. Hedge fund managers and quantitative asset managers may use the indices and historical data for back-testing investment strategies; pension plans and consultants may use the indices to conduct asset allocation research and to measure manager performance versus a defined mandate; broker-dealers may use them as the basis for index-linked derivative products; and fund managers may use them as the basis for exchange traded funds (ETFs) and index-tracking funds.

MSCI Global Standard Indices can assist you to:
