Download preliminary July 2007 index constituents. In December 1993, Barra launched the Barra Canada Growth and Value Indexes. In January 2004, we began utilizing quarterly book value where available and tightened the rules governing index membership, additions and deletions.
Like their US counterparts (the S&P/Barra Growth and Value Indexes), they are designed to track the two predominant investment styles, value and growth.
There are four Barra Canada Growth and Value Indexes, plus the Barra Canada Smallcap Index which is comprised of its Growth and Value sub-indexes.

The indexes are fully rebalanced every six months, with the rebalances taking effect on or about February 1 and August 1. For these re-balances, Barra first determines large-capitalization and small-capitalization universes. Each member asset is then ranked, relative to its capitalization peers, by book-to-price ratio and by dividend yield. These rankings are combined and the assets assigned to value or growth.
The indexes are capitalization-weighted: for the large-capitalization indexes, float capitalization is used; for the small-capitalization indexes, total issue capitalization is used.
